2003 Comprehensive Plan
A comprehensive plan is a statement of long-range policies made by the governing body of a community concerning its future physical development. Comprehensive planning is one process available to local government for addressing current issues, anticipating needs, and scheduling public improvements.
It is the purpose of the King William County Comprehensive Plan to provide a sound basis for the preparation of detailed functional plans which will serve as a general guide in the day-to-day decisions of County government. It establishes goals and implementation strategies for managing the future growth and development of the County.
This plan was prepared by the Planning Commission with the assistance of the County planning staff and consultants. It was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on June 23, 2003.

Geographic Information Systems
In September 1997, King William County began implementing the Enhanced E-911 System. Using aerial photographs taken for the purpose, the consulting firm of MSAG assigned street addresses to all visible structures in the county. Address plates were then hand-delivered to each location.
Since that time, MSAG has digitized its E-911 maps and the countys tax maps in AutoCad format for use in the GIS system.
The Countys Planning Technician is now able to access these files using ArcView software to produce maps and other documents used by the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Board of Supervisors.

Septic Pump Out Letters for King Williams Magisterial District 2 were mailed on September 1st 2010. The letter and form are also now available on line. The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act requires that septic systems be pumped out or inspected at least once every five years to reduce pollution. Low-to-moderate income (LMI) families are especially burdened by the requirement to pump out their septic systems. In order to assist these households, the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission (MPPDC) has secured funding from DCR to pay for the pump out of these systems. Applicants are taken on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted. MPPDC has funding remaining to assist another 10-11Middle Peninsula households. To be eligible you must own your home and meet income eligibility requirements which vary depending on the number of members in the household. For more information or to apply call Rose Lewis at 804 758-2311 or go online to http://www.mppdc.com/project/Pumpout_V.pdf.
