Functions

Fire & EMS

  • Provide support to the five fire and rescue agencies that serve the County
  • Act as the County Fire Marshal and enforce the State Fire Prevention Code

Emergency Management

  • Ensure that the County is prepared for all types of emergencies and maintain the Emergency Operations Plan
  • Manage the response to natural or man-made disasters affecting the County through the Emergency Operations Center
  • Act as the lead agency in recovery efforts to restore the County to its pre-disaster state
  • Take measures to mitigate hazards in order to reduce risk to life and property in future disasters

King William County Fire and EMS and the volunteer departments that serve King William County are committed to protecting the people, property and the environment of the citizens and visitors of our County through professionalism and selfless acts of service.

Vision

To provide the best service possible to our citizens and visitors while becoming one of the Commonwealth’s premier volunteer systems.

King William is served by four volunteer fire departments with over 100 members. Three local volunteer rescue squads provide service:

  • Bon Secours Regional Medical Center in Hanover
  • Medical College of Virginia Hospital
  • Riverside Hospitals in Gloucester and Tappahannock
  • And other medical facilities in the Richmond area
