Bay Transit, the public transportation division of Bay Aging, has scheduled public hearings to announce their intentions to raise the rates on deviated fixed-route bus service from $0.50 to $1.00 per ride effective September 1, 2022. The proposed rate increase will only effect Bay Transit’s deviated fixed-route services in West Point, Gloucester and Tappahannock beginning on September 1st as well as seasonal trolley service in Colonial Beach, Urbanna, and (potentially) Kilmarnock/ White Stone/ Irvington beginning Memorial Day weekend of 2023. The deviated fixed-route service in West Point is known as “The Paper Trail”, in Gloucester as the “hiveXpress”, and in Tappahannock as the “Rivah Ride.”
The proposed rate increase does not impact any of Bay Transit’s demand responsive services, which will continue to be $2.00 per ride. Bay Transit Express microtransit service in Gloucester will also remain at $2.00 per ride.
Public hearings will be held to give any interested party the opportunity to comment on the proposed fare increases at:
- Bay Transit’s Gloucester facilities at 5959 Fiddlers Green Road, on Tuesday, August 16th, from 1 to 2 PM.
- Bay Transit’s Warsaw facilities at 111 Commerce Parkway, on Wednesday, August 17th, from 6 to 7 PM.
All interested parties are encouraged to attend the public hearings. If you need transportation to either public hearing, please call 877-869-6046 at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a free ride. Written comments will be accepted until 4:30pm on Thursday, August 18th. Please submit written comments to:
